October 24, 2007; Rockledge FL - Space Coast SCORE Chapter 400 Selects 2007 Counselor of the Year. SCORE Counselor Kathryn Merry was selected the Chapter 400 SCORE counselor of the year for 2007. Kathryn has been a SCORE Counselor since January 2001. In 2007 she counseled 68 clients, dedicating more than 76 hours of her time helping small business owners. Kathryn’s special areas of expertise are government contracting and new business start-up.  Kathryn received her award from Chapter Chair Ralph Perers at the Chapter 400 annual luncheon held at the Rockledge Country Club. Congratulations to Kathryn for outstanding service to the local business community.

SCORE Helps 315,488 People with their Dreams of Business Success

SCORE provided 443,210 services to the small business community in FY07 through face-to-face and online mentoring and workshops. Total services increased five percent over FY06. Local SCORE offices held 191,564 face-to-face counseling sessions.  SCORE conducted 13,983 workshops that covered a wide range of business issues at SCORE chapter locations and online at SCORE’ s Web site, www.score.org. Nationwide, 132,800 people participated in these training sessions.  SCORE’s online experts helped entrepreneurs through 118,846 e-mail sessions via Ask SCORE at the SCORE Web site. New and established small business owners can enter a question or key words, review a list of counselors and submit questions to the counselor of their choice. SCORE’s online mentors offer advice in more than 600 business areas.

The top five states for SCORE services include:

  • California. 62,449 total services, with 41,658 counseling sessions and 20,791 workshop attendees.
  • Florida. 38,897 total services, with 28,792 counseling sessions and 10,105 workshop attendees.
  • New York. 30,725 total services, with 19,743 counseling sessions and 10,982 workshop attendees.
  • Texas. 21,854 total services, with 14,885 counseling sessions and 6,969 workshop attendees.
  • Pennsylvania. 21,099 total services, with 14,106 counseling sessions and 6,993 workshop attendees.

Since 1964, SCORE has assisted more than 7.9 million aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners through counseling and business workshops. On Friday, May 23, at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, Casey Collins, CEO, and David Fleenor, COO, of c3-Wireless received the 2008 Business of the Year Award from SCORE Chapter 400 Chair Ralph Perers.  c3-Wireless provides professional Wi-Fi consulting services to small & medium businesses and enterprise-class networks.  The company specializes in large mission-critical implementations and adds value with troubleshooting, security analysis and wireless network training. c3-Wireless was recommended as the SCORE Chapter 400 business of year for 2008 by SCORE Counselors Selwyn Edwards, Larry Pals and Bill Cunneen. Collectively, these counselors provided business assistance to c3-Wireless in the areas of expanding the business, cash flow management, and technical guidance.

c3-Wireless COO David Fleenor stated that the assistance provided by SCORE was invaluable to the success of his business, and SCORE’s strong support gave him confidence about his company’s ability to succeed. “There were so many questions that we had when we first started, and Selwyn Edwards had the answers or knew where to find them”. Fleenor adds, “Selwyn was so supportive and positive about what we were trying to accomplish; it really helped ease the fears and anxieties we had.”

The Space Coast Chapter of SCORE is a member of the national SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” program funded through the U.S. Small Business Administration. The local office has 23 counselors and has handled 489 new client cases this fiscal year, a 36% increase from the previous year. SCORE chapters in Florida rank 2nd in the nation with 8,974 client cases.
